REPORT ON 3 D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY

We have studied our previous post '' Basic of 3 d printing with recycled materials '' and we had basic concept of 3 D printing technology.

We will discuss here various points in 3 D printing technology. So let’s starts to understand the 3 D printing technology without wasting time.

3-D printing technology is basically an additive process of printing which is based on the principle of inkjet printing. A large no. of materials could be utilized in order to produce a three-dimensional object with the help of this technology. If we consider deeply, in current situation this technique of 3 d printing will be expensive but as time passes this technology of 3 d printing will be quite economical.

Three-dimensional or 3-D printing technology was such topics that lot of professionals were combined with science narrative. This 3 D printing technology is now most popular and becoming very common application throughout industries involves in production of various objects. Now these days, a lot of researches are going on in 3 D printing technology so that it will be more economical in future and will have ability to not change the society.

The fundamental of this technology is based on the inkjet principles and will be able to print with a various types of materials.  Various types of industries are using 3 D technology now these days.

Application of recycled materials in 3 D printing

Normally recycled material that we commonly used in 3 D printing is plastics. Researches were carried out at Michigan Technological University where they have made one 3 D extruder where old plastics will be used as raw material and this extruder will convert these old plastic raw materials in to usable or beneficial filament for three dimensional printing.

The Filabot will take a piece of used old plastic of thickness about 4-inch and these old plastic pieces will be shredded and after that these shredded old plastic small pieces will go for next process of melting. Once above mentioned old plastic will be melted, it will for next process where molten plastic will be extruded through different types of nozzles of changeable types.

This machine works better when we use old thermoplastics such as ABS, LDPE, HDPE but it must be noted that PVC i.e. poly vinyl chloride will not be used because of toxicity reasons. Researches were calculated at Michigan Technological University that this machine will require very little quantity of energy in order to convert the old used plastic in to usable filament for three dimensional printing.

It was also concluded in the research at Michigan Technological university that twenty empty milk jugs will be able to provide approximate one kilogram of plastic, recycling of old plastic in such way will be able to reduce the price of implementing a three dimensional printer in very efficient way and it will provide the benefit approximate  €25 – €40.

In such a way we are not going to expend money in purchasing new plastic but we are saving money by using those old plastic pieces in the form of filament as these old plastic could be recycled in any recycling unit but that will be slightly incoherent. It will be a important turning point as in coming future peoples will need printing a lot and three dimensional printing  application will be more feasible.

As per researchers Michigan Technological University all type of plastic will not be suitable for three dimensional printing. Let us take one example of recycling of milk jugs, milk jugs are normally made of high density polyethylene i.e. HDPE because the recycling of high density polyethylene is slightly more challenging and difficult.

But this drawback is not overcoming. The researchers of University were prepared their own chamber with facility of controlling the climate, an off-the-shelf teddy-bear humidifier and also integrated along with a dorm room refrigerator and secured better results.

It is now concluded that with the application of these old plastic pieces which is processed in extruder to make filament for 3D printing will be the best solution for controlling the pollution. If consumers can recycle their old plastics at home, ‘garbage’ gets a whole new perspective.

Development of three dimensional (3 D) printing

There is one difference between three dimensional and traditional manufacturing is that by what way object is going to be formed. In traditional manufacturing as we know that its combination of forging, grinding, molding, cutting, welding, assembling and gluing.

There will be some raw material that will be wasted and it will also consume a lot of heat energy for heating and again reheating process. So there will be lot of operation for manufacturing a product.

Let us take an example of manufacturing of adjustable spanner by 3 D printing process then it will be in single operation as in case of three dimensional printing this wrench will come out of printer in complete assembled form along with all movable components.

There will be some finishing works such as cleaning & baking and after that wrench will be ready for application. It must be noted that the efficiency and power of this wrench will not be equivalent to forged wrenches.

In current situation 3d printing will not be able to overcome the traditional technique very soon but this technology will support for mass production. In this meantime for lower quantity production, three dimensional printing technologies have provided a good result.

Development costing and consumption of time could be leave by eliminating the requirement for tools and tackles used in traditional type of manufacturing. Because three dimensional (3 D) printing technologies have ability to take care of precise control over the material which is being used, the designer will have ability to re-create the internal structure of an object for optimum effect.

One important thing is noticed that, during the application of three dimensional technology with recycled material will provide the result of zero loss of raw material because as in case of three dimensional technology, loss of raw material will be lesser as compared to traditional technology and if there will be some losses of raw material then that will be re used in the recycling unit.

There are some very important and valuable uses of three dimensional or 3-D printing technologies especially in area of graphic arts. If we consider about the packaging industry, we will come to know that prototype preparation is a very important of the development phase along with designing package.

By considering a three dimensional or 3-D model of the package before it will go for mass production, the business may asses and amends the package structure in order to secure the optimized the design. Packaging companies throughout the world uses the process of prototype -creation. Let us take one example of a packaging manufacturer The Creative Services Group of Silgan.

Plastics Corp integrates three dimensional or 3-D printing into their process of production and made standard operation procedure of their production process because their management were securing a lot of advantage from implementing this three dimensions or 3D printing technology in their standard production system.

They have observed a lot of advantage after the creation of three dimension or 3-D models such as they felt that this system will provide a better sense or experience about the final object to packaging designer and they also observed that customer may feel about the final product performance once this three dimension or 3D model implemented in their standard operating procedure in their production flow line.

3-D printing or three dimensional printing technologies are now growing area arts world; however t is rapidly expanding into the next big print technology in the graphic arts world. Scott Harmon, who is associated with Z corp. as the vice president of business development, has stated in a world famous media site  in Cygnus Business Media Site, according to him  because of three dimension or 3-D prototypes, the products might be designed ultimately with quite more consumer and user input.

As every organization are interested to deliver products with the help of 3D printing technology that’s why we may easily observe that three dimension or 3-D printing is growing very quickly Harmon also notes that, “3-D printing helps companies that need to deliver products faster and on a budget.

We will discuss the negative impact of 3D printing with recycled materials and we will also see here why 3 D printing with recycled materials hasn’t yet accomplished i.e. Drawback, simultaneously we will see here the Mechanical Properties of recycled materials and economical aspects in our next post i.e. Negative impact of 3d printing
